As an amateur Franciscan scholar who has read many volumes on the saint's life, this is by far my favorite book. It is filled with intimate, often funny, always illuminating anecdotal stories that really bring his unique take on the teaches of Christ to life. Perhaps it is because his life unfolded about halfway between the time of Christ and today, it is somehow more "chronologically digestible" - relatable? - than the New Testament. A pleasure to read and as is the case with the most vividly described passages of the NT, I feel like I am right there with him. The power of humility and goodness has never been more rapidly deployed, and a millennium later, St. Frances' relentless demand for respect of nature and seeing God in the eyes of all people has never been more relevant.Product details

Little Flowers of St Francis of Assisi Brother Ugolino 9781475164527 Books Reviews
I am in a church book club and we are using this as our study,,
An insightful compendium of the simple life of St. Francis. You will marvel and appreciate his daily challenges as you realize you can't/wouldn't do the same as he.
This is a really interesting book, bridging many years. I love anything about St. Francis, and the way this book came together, with material from so many people over so many years is really worth reading... Beverley Gledhill Australia
This book offers many lessons from the spirituality of St Francis humility, abandonment to the will of God, charity, mercy, etc. While many of the stories seem counter-intuitive to the standards of the world, they give a powerful testimony to the power of the Love of God and the gift of service to others through that Love. Many miracles can happen when we learn to "die to self" and trust in God as St Francis and his brothers did.
Some exaggeration was used I'm sure when writing the stories of the life of St. Francis, it's true. But it's a joy and a wonder to read these stories and really get to know the man and the Saint by reading the stories his own near in time flock told about him.
I especially value how much St. Frank was a devout Catholic in this little volume.
Nothing like Nikos Casentzakis (sp!) story of him without devotion to the Eucharist, Holy Mass, or the value of the priests.
Thanks for reading!
Little short stories about St. Francis and some of the other monks associated with him. The cover said there was humor and there was some, apparently saintly behavior can be annoying to non-saints. Such as an other-worldly monk dumping a weeks worth of chickens and vegitables and everything into a pot without even plucking. The theory was there would be enough food for a week and instaed of cooking the monks could be praying. Fortunately this behavior was not common as eating the resulting mush was not going to happen.
I am glad I read the introduction before diving into the main body of this book. The introduction gives excellent perspective on the author's style as well as the context of the tales presented. With that understanding, I enjoyed reading the tales and found many nuggets of spiritual truth in the various stories. This book is a gem for anyone who admires St. Francis and his early followers.
